How to Qualify for an Internship

services for internship studentsThe key to receiving an internship abroad is being able to demonstrate experience and language proficiency! More intensive internships which offer more responsibility can be arranged for students in an industry where they have studied and for those who have already gained valuable experiences through summer employment or previous internships in the same industry. Interns who have worked in the industry for a year or two, or who even may have only worked for a summer in their desired field, will find themselves in an excellent position to receive a higher level internship abroad.

Foreign language proficiency also plays an important key role in internships abroad. Many opportunities in non-English speaking countries such as Germany and France will require a strong grasp of the language (depending on the field). Having a higher level of language proficieny will certainly increase the student's opportunity to receive more interesting, valuable and responsible tasks at the company.

Eligibility:

  • open to students from all study areas
  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior standing OR recent graduates
  • minimum GPA of 3.0 (B)
  • some spoken and written proficiency in the German language is preferred but not required
  • practical experience in the desired field of the internship (summer employment, prior internship, etc.)
PLEASE NOTE: Participants must be enrolled at a university before, during and after the program or be a recent graduate with a valid diploma OR be able to show a copy of their diploma if they are recent graduates.

Important message for your students:

Internships are not a "piece of cake", are not to be taken for granted and they are not a vacation!

Your students will be living in a new location, meeting new people, taking over new responsibilities and learning a new language. That is a lot to consider before agreeing to take on an internship. Never before have internships abroad been so rewarding and important for today's college students. Even though your students will be expected to do daily house work tasks during their internship, like making copies from time to time and doing things that are generally asked of interns all over the world, when they are finished, the reward of having completed an international internship will be their best accomplishment for a future and career filled with success.
